ABOUT Ananda Luna(TM)

Ananda Luna(TM) RYS is the Yoga Teacher Training branch of Yoga DownEast, based in Orland, Maine.  Founded by Lead Trainer, Krista Hastings E-RYT500, YACEP in 2019, Ananda Luna (TM) is a Registered Yoga School with Yoga Alliance.

Ananda Luna (TM) is committed to the practice of yoga in order to be present with what is.  Our practice strives to be sensitive to the cycles of nature of which we are a part - from the cycles of our breath to the cycles of the tides; the rising and setting of the sun; the cycles of the moon, and the seasons, and our lives.  Yoga teachers graduating from Ananda Luna (TM) will be well prepared to guide students through the dynamic flow of Vinyasa Yoga, the rejuvenating practice of Restorative Yoga and the deep meditation of Yoga Nidra.  The Yang and Yin of practice will be married to the Yang and Yin of the cycles of nature.  Meditation on the Breath, Sun Salutations, Moon Salutations and Yoga Nidra will be the ground of the practice.

Ananda Luna (TM) RYS is following the newly revised requirements set forth by Yoga Alliance - as far as they are currently defined.  Teacher Trainees enrolled in ALRYS can expect a full 200 contact hours with the lead trainer, who is E-RYT500.  The distribution of training hours follows the new guidelines for all of the Education Categories, again, as far as they are currently defined.

Teacher Trainees can expect to be immersed in their Yoga Practice - in a way that will likely be an expansion of what they currently consider their practice to be!  Upon graduation, Teachers can expect:

  • To have a solid understanding of how to teach, prop, modify and assist a wide range of asana (postures), including their Sanskrit names

  • A deep dive into Yoga Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle - including the Eight Limbs, Mythology and History of Asana names

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Lots of experience teaching and assisting and the confidence that goes with it!

  • What many describe as a Life-Changing Experience

  • To have lots of fun!

ABOUT Krista Hastings, E-RYT500, YACEP

Lead Trainer Krista Hastings moved from New Jersey to Maine in 2000 in order to live a life more connected to the seasons and nature.  She lives on an old farm with lots of woods and critters.  Yoga is a perfect complement to her life as she practices being present with what is.  Krista's favorite thing about yog is that no matter how you go into a class - you come out happy.  She especially loves the heart opening of backbends, the worldview of inversions and the fun of playing around with arm balances.

Krista received yoga teaching certificates from Rolf Gates (200 Hour Vinyasa), Central Street Yoga (200 hr), Laughing Lotus (300 hr), Jennifer Reis Divine Sleep Yoga Nidra (40 hr), Richard Miller iRest Yoga Nidra Level 1 (40 hr), Integrative Yoga for Seniors at Duke Integrative Medicine (50 hr) - plus more yoga and meditation trainings and workshops than she can even remember with many notable teachers, including Sharon Salzberg, Judith Hanson Lasater, Leslie Kaminoff, Kathryn Budig, Raghunath, Desiree Rumbaugh, Tiffany Cruikshank and others.

In 2017 Krista opened Yoga DownEast in the former Masonic Building on the banks of the Narramissic River in Orland, Maine in order to be able to offer classes, workshops and trainings to the people who live/work in and travel to this beautiful part of the Maine coast.  Ananda Luna (TM) represents the Teacher Training vision she has held in her heart for many years.

Krista is grateful for the support and guidance of her past, present (and future!) teachers.  She is particularly grateful for the guidance of those teachers who taught her the many joys and challenges of teaching itself and to all the students who make the decision to show up on the mat.
